What is Escavite?

Multivitamins are made up of various vitamins that are usually found in foods and other natural sources.

Iron is a mineral that supports the health of your body's red blood cells.

Fluoride helps stop tooth decay in people with low levels of fluoride in their drinking water. In many large U.S. communities, fluoride is added to the water supply.

Escavite is a combination medicine for infants and children who do not receive enough fluoride in their drinking water.

Escavite may also be used for reasons not mentioned in this medication guide.

Escavite side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

In rare cases, Escavite may discolor your tooth enamel. This has mostly happened with large doses or long-term use. Stop using Escavite and call your dentist or doctor right away if you see any change in how your teeth look.

Less serious side effects may be more common, and you may have none at all.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may happen. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Seek emergency medical help or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. An overdose of iron can be fatal to a child younger than 6 years old.

Avoid using other multivitamins or mineral supplements that also contain iron. Getting too much iron can cause serious medical problems.

Calcium can make it harder for your body to absorb all the nutrients in Escavite. For at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after you take Escavite:

  • do not drink milk or eat dairy products; and
  • do not take calcium supplements, or antacids that contain calcium.

Avoid taking any other multivitamin product unless your doctor tells you to.

Make sure that a child using this medicine is not getting extra fluoride by swallowing toothpaste or drinking water from sources with adequate fluoride levels.
