TicoVac Pediatric side effects
Get emergency medical help if your child shows signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
The vaccination provider may want to observe your child for a short time after the injection to ensure there is no allergic reaction. Quick treatment will be provided if there is a reaction right after receiving the vaccine.
Keep a record of all side effects your child experiences. If a booster dose is needed, inform the vaccination provider if the previous shot caused any side effects.
Becoming infected with tick-borne encephalitis may pose a greater risk to your child's health than receiving the vaccine to prevent it. Like any medication, this vaccine can cause side effects, but the chance of serious side effects is extremely low.
Common side effects of TicoVac Pediatric may include:
- pain and tenderness at the injection site;
- headache;
- fever; or
- restlessness.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may happen. Contact your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You can report vaccine side effects to the US Department of Health and Human Services at 1 800 822 7967.

How is this vaccine given?
This vaccine is given as an injection (shot) into a muscle.
TicoVac Pediatric is given in a series of 3 shots. A booster dose (fourth dose) may be given at least 3 years after your child completes the primary immunization series if needed. Follow your doctor's instructions or the schedule recommended by your local health department.
This vaccine contains albumin, a protein made from human blood, and may contain viruses that may cause disease. Talk with your doctor if you have any questions.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Contact your vaccination provider if your child misses a dose or falls behind on their schedule. The next dose should be given as soon as possible. There is no need to start over.
Make sure your child receives all recommended doses of this vaccine. Your child may not be fully protected if they do not receive the complete series.
