Vasotec I.V. (Intravenous)
Generic name: enalaprilat
Uses for Vasotec I.V.
Enalaprilat injection is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure increases the workload of the heart and arteries. If it lasts for a long time, it can cause the heart and arteries to not work properly. This may harm the blood vessels in the brain, heart, and kidneys, leading to a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure can also raise the risk of heart attacks. Controlling blood pressure may help reduce the chances of these problems.
Enalaprilat works by blocking an enzyme in the body that is needed to make a substance that causes blood vessels to tighten. This helps the blood vessels to relax. As a result, blood pressure goes down and more blood and oxygen reach the heart.
